It would do, the imprint bonus is a huge boost to melee and hp though. you are missing the second part of imprinting. Yes they dont get a rider bonus, but they still get the 20% bonus stats in hp, food, weight, melee, movespeed. To elaborate: 100% imprint gives you the 30% riding bonus (deal 30% more dmg, take 30% less.)
